Christmas in NYC

For journalism class last Thursday, we learned how to use Soundslides (which btw, my grandma could probably figure out) to make a slideshow of photos coupled with audio. I decided to use a few photos that I’d snapped at Bryant Park’s Holiday Market and Macy’s 34th st Holiday Windows and slapped it together with “Last Christmas” by Taylor Swift (which hopefully won’t get taken down). Check it out! =)

If I could figure out how to add it directly to my post I would…

Passing notes under the streets of NYC

Mexican Drawing

Crude Drawing of Mexican Mariachi Performer

Taken: W4th St. Station
A rather crude drawing of one of  the commonly-seen-in-NYC-subways Mexican Mariachi Performers… well the guy’s got all the instruments and accessories right.

MTA apology

"No uptown #6 train. Please go to 14th St for uptown #6 train. [Sorry

Taken: Canal St. Station
The MTA doesn’t always try to screw us over.  Sometimes they can’t help it and they feel bad. One employee wanted to let us know:  “Sorry.”

Space Mouse

SPACE MOUSE!

Taken: 11th St and 3rd Ave
Two words: SPACE MOUSE! What is it?  I don’t know. Who cares. It sounds awesome.

Mosaic Man

Building mosaics since 1989.

Building mosaics since 1989.

Taken: 8th St and Broadway (SE corner)
This guy’s been building mosaics on NYC’s light posts (especially near Astor Place) since 1989! He’s built about 67 out of 80 (that have been approved by the Dept. of Transportation). It takes about three months to do one light post.

Mosaic Man: The trail [of mosaic light posts] begins on Broadway down 8th St. to Astor Place down to Saint Marks Place all the way down to 4th St and then up 4th St to Tower Records and runs along Broadway from 4th St to 8th St. I believe that if I hadn’t been delayed from lack of finances I could have been headed towards Harlem as we speak!
